Holder of an A.B. degree from the University of Washington, Bennett was a star of the athletic world long before gaining fame on the screen. As Herman Brix, his real name, he was a member of the American Olympic team at Amsterdam, and he held the shot putt championship in the United States of America from 1928 to 1932.
