Description

Express Shipping Worldwide is Free Norman Lindsay Pencil Drawings With a foreword by A. D. Hope Published by Angus and Robertson, Sydney, 1969 A beautiful folio size First Edition, with the dustjacket With 46 full-page plates covering Norman Lindsay's most brilliant pencil drawings – the plates are blank on the rear. None of them have previously been repro duced. This is such a beautiful production and the plates so fine that print resellers break this book up for resale. This practice has lead to the book becoming rare. Chiefly drawings of the nude from the model, they also include portrait studies of some of Norman Lindsay's most famous models, preliminary drawings which were made for his compositions in oils and watercolour, and some brilliant drawings of animals. Simply because the drawings were made for his own use or pleasure and few examples have been exhibited, Norman Lindsay's pencil drawings are not so well known as his work in other media; but anyone who looks through this book will instantly recognise his mastery of the pencil and also the exceptional charm and ease with which he has expressed himself. Here, says A. D. Hope in his foreword, " is the armature of the human body through the superb drawings of the women who sat for him, in which the pride of the flesh is matched by the pride of the spirit, in which breasts and thighs are as individual and eloquent as the faces, and every part of the body thinks, feels, and speaks. . . . Inevitably illuminated by his vision of them as creatures of the imagination, they are glowing with the joy of a natural form to be recognized for what it is. " In 96 unpaginated pages on a lemon-yellow paper, in cloth hardcovers, with titles in gilt to the spine. The Dustjacket: There are creases and repaired closed tears to the edges, and a chip out of the top of the spine. There is no foxing. There is no sunning. The Book: The dustjacket has certainly done its job as there is no shelfwear and is like new throughout. There is no foxing. There is no sunning. There are no previous owners' names or inscriptions. 1. Always a pleasure to purchase from this seller. Quality items at good prices. Better than described. Awestruck by the age of the volume. Reading the name of a previous owner from almost 350 years ago sends a strange shiver of connection to a person from so long ago. Combined with free express shipping in well-secured packaging, this seller cannot be rated highly enough.
