The first part is “Karate-do no Kata”, The second part is “Theory and Practice of Basic Techniques, The third part is “History of Karate-do”, The fourth part is “Karate and Kobudo in Okinawa. This four-part book is a summary of the past 50 years of Uechi-ryu karate-do and a starting point for a fresh start for Uechi-ryu in the future. Therefore, this book is by no means an introductory book. Particularly, the first volume, “Karate-do no kata” has the qualities of a technical treatise as a result of the concentration of the various techniques of Uechi-ryu. Therefore, in the first part of the book, it is assumed that the reader is familiar with Uechi-ryu karate to a certain extent. The first volume of this book, “The Kata of Three Fights,” concludes with an article by Munetaka Machida, “A Discussion of Three Fights. This is an extremely valuable article that discusses “Sen,” which is the basis of Uechi-ryu karate-do techniques and the foundation of karate training, from his professional standpoint as a doctor and from the standpoint that only a person who has practiced karate-do himself can appreciate. The third part of the book, “History of Karate-do,” is a special contribution by Mr. Takamiya Takamiya, who teaches at a university, and is titled “History of Karate-do.” Using a vast amount of data and a scholarly approach, he presents a wealth of original historical documents never before seen in any book on this field, and presents an in-depth history of karate-do. I am convinced that Takamiyagi's “History of Karate-do” will have a tremendous impact on those involved in this art, beyond the realm of the schools. It should be noted that the value of this book has been further enhanced by these two contributed articles. Had a problem with ordering where I ordered something that was accidentally out of stock and the seller was so nice and apologetic that they offered a very similar set of 3 magazines which was slightly more expensive then the ones I ordered but did not charge any extra. They arrived much quicker then I was expecting in very well protected packaging and the quality of the magazine is also very good for them being from the 2000's
