Description This is a 1980 Yamaha SG500, based on the serial number. It was released as a more affordable version of the SG700 (which had a retail price of 70,000 yen at the time). The main differences are in the pickups and body material composition. While the SG700 has G-Ⅱ pickups and a maple × mahogany body, this model features G-Ⅲ pickups and a maple × agathis body. The body has the characteristic Yamaha paint clouding throughout. There are numerous scratches and dents. The corner of the headstock on the 1st string side is chipped (there is also a paint chip on the 6th string side). There are a few dings on the back of the neck as well. The circuit is all original, though the rear volume and tone pots have some slight crackling. The neck has a slight amount of relief, but there are no buzzing issues. The truss rod has been tightened by about two full turns, and there’s still room for about one to one and a half turns. The 1st string side is almost perfectly straight, while the 6th string side has a slight forward bow. Even though there is room left in the truss rod, the slight bow on the 6th string side cannot be adjusted by turning the rod and will be left as is. The frets are about 80% remaining.
