Description
a beautiful piece of Iowa history and early wristwatch culture. Movement: Longines, Swiss-made, serial #2054310, manufactured approximately 1907–1908 . 15 jewels. Private labeled by J.W. Neasham , a prominent Ottumwa, Iowa jeweler who operated from 1892 to 1927. Both the dial and movement plate are signed "J.W. Neasham Ottumwa." Does wind — likely needs service to run reliably. Case: Gold-filled, made by Star Watch Case Co. (marked S.W.C. Co. / Gold Filled / 20 Years), a well-known American case manufacturer out of Ludington, Michigan. Case serial: 5669301. Style: Early trench/wristwatch conversion — the small pocket watch movement is fitted into a wrist-worn case with a braided silk cord strap and gold-filled hardware with safety chain clasp. This style surged in popularity around WWI. Condition: Dial is clean with crisp Arabic numerals and ornate blued hands. Case shows expected age patina. Original braided strap is intact. Sold as-is — servicing recommended. A genuine Iowa-signed Longines from a documented regional jeweler — a collector's piece with local provenance.
