The main sources about him, the Four Gospels, were written some forty years after his death, and contentious debates reign concerning their sometimes contradictory portrayals, which accounts are credible, and how far their authors may have altered or invented episodes to support a view or doctrine of the early Church. Most scholars assume that information about Jesus was preserved only orally up until the writing of the Gospels, allowing ample time for the stories of Jesus to grow and diversify. Alan Millard here argues that written reports about Jesus could have been made during his lifetime and that some among his audiences and followers may very well have kept notes, first-hand documents that the Evangelists could weave into their narratives. Reading and Writing in the Time of Jesus first provides a brief, fascinating introduction to the history of writing's early survival, how we have the documents we have, and what they can tell us about the times and places of their origins. This overview is followed by a more specific look at what biblical and religious writings survive, how they are dated, and who was able to read and write at the time of their creation. Finally, Millard examines the possibility that Jesus' words and actions were committed to writing during his lifetime and what this would mean for the study of Christianity and the origins of the Gospels. Received item as described and packaged well. Listing indicated shipping was free. Ordered on the 7th but by the 14th noticed it hadn’t been shipped yet. Seller responded quickly saying that during the purchase process that it said it would not be shipped until the 22nd because they use a fulfillment house. I don’t recall seeing anything about delayed shipping during the process or in the listing. While I appreciate the prompt response to my inquiry, other buyers should be aware of delays.
THIS person is a fine eBay seller! • The item was ordered Feb 6, 2026 & received on Feb 17. • It was well packed, & arrived perfectly. • Shipping time: DECENT. • Item: New, as described. • I recommend this seller, & HOPE TO buy from them again. . [And I decry how eBay has taken to erase my descriptive Feedbacks each time, forcing me to save these words in Notes, and retrieve it for editing, for each successive detailed feedback submission. DO YOU SEE THIS, EBAY?!]
Top notch quality, better than I thought. Once I received the package in the mail the condition was as described, if not better. The shipping & packaging went very well, when I took the game out of the packaging, visually the appearance was nearly flawless looking, being again, as described in both the description and the pictures. The value for the product I received was great, couldn't be happier with the purchase and would purchase again from this seller!
