A Beautiful Late Georgian / Early Victorian Pictorial Wax Seal Fob This is a stunning example of an early 19th-century watch fob, likely dating from the 1820s to 1840s. Unlike common monogram seals, this piece features a highly desirable pictorial intaglio depicting a Horse and Carriage (Stagecoach). In the Georgian era, the carriage motif often symbolised travel, progress, or "safe passage," making this a wonderful "story" piece for a collector or someone looking for a meaningful pendant. Design & Detail: • The Fob: Features a classic ribbed, domed superstructure with ornate acanthus leaf scrollwork on the handle. • The Stone: A crisp, hand-carved dark stone (likely Chalcedony or Sard). The engraving is remarkably sharp for its age. • The Metal: High-quality yellow metal, consistent with the "Pinchbeck" or gold-casing of the era. It has a rich, buttery gold lustre and shows very little wear. • Versatility: It has a sturdy suspension loop at the top, making it perfect to be worn as a statement pendant on a modern gold chain or added to an antique Albert watch chain. Condition: The seal is in excellent antique condition. The stone is secure in its setting with no major chips to the intaglio surface. The metalwork remains crisp and bright with a lovely aged patina. No hallmarks present, which is typical for gold-cased "toys" of this period.
It has a funny hook fastener on it which I’ve never seen before but other than that it’s a lovely necklace
