Antique Russian Orthodox Icon — Bogolyubskaya Mother of God with Saints — Chromolithograph on Tin, Imperial Russia, circa 1880–1905 A genuine antique Russian Orthodox religious icon depicting the Bogolyubskaya (Боголюбская) Mother of God — one of the most revered Marian icons in the Russian Orthodox tradition, with origins dating to the 12th-century vision of Grand Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky of Vladimir. The Image: The Theotokos (Mother of God) stands at left in full royal vestments, holding a scroll bearing a prayer. Christ in Glory (IC XC) appears in the upper right in a mandorla of clouds. A procession of approximately 14 haloed saints — bishops, hierarchs, and holy figures — approach her in veneration. Cyrillic inscriptions: Top border: "Боголюбская Пртва Бцы" (Bogolyubskaya Protecting Mother of God) МР ΘΥ (Mother of God — Greek abbreviation) ІС ХС (Jesus Christ) Medium & Construction: Chromolithograph on tin — this type of icon was produced for Russian Orthodox faithful in the late Imperial period. These mass-produced metal icons were made accessible to those who could not afford hand-painted wooden icons, and their production was banned by the Holy Synod in 1902. Surface flaking and loss visible throughout the image — consistent with genuine age of 120+ years. Edge wear and some chipping to the painted metal border.
