Antique Victorian Portrait Brooch Cameo Hand Painted Gold Pin Antique Victorian Portrait Brooch Cameo Hand Painted Gold Pin Antique Victorian hand painted miniature portrait brooch depicting a young woman wearing a light blue and white plaid tartan head scarf and shawl or wrap and red rose in her hair. Mount is rolled gold (early plate). Brooch is mid to late Victorian. Brooch measures approximately 1 3/4" x 1 1/2”. The painting is well done and in good vintage condition with minor wear, a few tiny surface scratches which are not really apparent when worn. See photos. Photos are taken under bright light and magnification. Portrait is entirely hand painted. It is in the style of Limoges miniature portraits. Portrait is not a stock portrait, or one I have seen before. Portrait has some tiny fine surface scratches, as is common for portrait brooches of its age. Brooch closes with a rollover safety clasp. The pin, hinge and clasp are old replacements for the original C clasp and hinge. Metal was added to back of mount in channel to it up built up, to facilitate of the replacements and to reinforce it. Additional metal added to the channel is tarnished, graduated, has an inconsistent thickness and a looks a bit unrefined. Built up metal has a mid to dark patina. The safety clasp and replacement hinge were updates made post 1930. At the time brooch it was originally made, in mid to late 1800’s, it would have had a C clasp, an elongated tube pin which extended beyond the brooch mount, and a large tube hinge. Mount has been polished. It has a light warm patina. Brooch is unmarked and unsigned. It is antique condition. It addition to wearing it, it would be lovely framed in a freestanding or wall mount frame. It was purchased from an estate in the United Kingdom. See photos for full description and condition.
