Antique Victorian Paste Brooch Red Clear Unfoiled Crystal Circles Pin

Description

This antique brooch features a pair of conjoined circles with inner rings of red paste and outer rings of larger clear paste jewels. The clear stones must be highly faceted on the backs as the reflection and sparkle is quite complex. The metal appears to be brass or bronze. There is evidence of gold plating but most has worn away. At the center bottom of the back is a small ring. So the brooch must have had a dangle at one time. An early c-clasp secures the jewel. All stones are un-foiled and prong set. Measurements: 1-3/8” wide x 7/8” Condition: some verdigris in the recesses behind the stone settings, the pin was likely gold plated at one time but most of the gold has worn away leaving a dark brass color (the color looks almost like rust on my monitor but it isn't), one of the top stones must be a replacement. It is slightly larger and not perfectly round around the edge. But the cut is very similar so the replacement is an early repair. Some rubbing to this stone. H763
