Antique Hand-colored Bird Print of Jean Emmanuel Marie Le Maout of France We offer several very colorful prints from painter Le Maout’s Historie Naturelle des Oiseau (Paris, 1853, second edition 1855), part of his Les Trois Regnes de la Nature. Especially colorful birds from many parts of the world were chosen by Le Maout, mostly painted from skins, I believe; many were hand-colored by William H. Freeman. These very handsome prints, ca. 6.5” wide x 10 3/8” tall, all Le Maout prints are little known and rare. Here a Pesquet’s Parrot (now Psittrichas fulgidus ) found in mountains of New Guinea. The print also depicts 3 passion vine flowers and is in excellent condition. $115
