Description
Up for sale is a rare early Biotar 2/5.8cm made in Germany by Carl Zeiss Jena. It is early model with red "T" (means multi-coated) and 17 blades aperture. The lens was dropped down and had a bent filter mount but recently it was professionally fixed up by a repairman from Germany. Unfortunately I don't have a correct filter to test how it screws in after restoration of the lens' filter mount. Glass elements are clear, with no chips, scratches nor fungus. They have cleaning trace and rear glass has got a couple of factory-made air bubbles inside (exactly shown on the actual images). Aperture blades are free of oil traces on them. Focusing and the hole adjusting work well. The lens is very good to be used with vintage SLR cameras and modern DSLR cameras - you just need to have a correct adaptor. It comes with not original lens caps. Rear one has no screw mount - just slip-on. Its mount is M40. Focus is manual, focal distance is 58mm - great as a portrait lens. Max hole is f/2.0. The lens gives nice bokeh and very sharp shots. Excellent vintage piece of early series. This vintage Biotar 2/58mm lens is a gem! The rare red "T" coating and smooth 17-blade aperture create stunning bokeh. Despite its past drop, it's been expertly repaired—glass is clean with no major flaws. A fantastic find for collectors and shooters who love classic character. The restored filter mount works well, though testing with a filter would be ideal. Images have that dreamy, old-school Zeiss look—perfect for portraits or artistic shots. A true piece of optical history with plenty of life left!
