It holds a replaceable charcoal filter which helps to purify the water before it drips onto the coffee grounds, for a better-tasting cup of coffee. This holder has been used for about ten years and works great. It has been thoroughly cleaned and shows the minimal wear associated with normal usage. I will include one unused charcoal filter.
