Virgil “Fire” Trucks, who spent part of his long Major League career with the Chicago White Sox from 1953 to 1955, was a dominant right‑handed pitcher remembered for his blazing fastball, durability, and remarkable longevity. Trucks, born April 26, 1917, in Birmingham, Alabama, compiled a 177–135 career record with a 3.39 ERA over 17 seasons in the majors, including his productive stretch with the White Sox, where he posted 15 wins in 1953, 19 wins in 1954, and another strong campaign in 1955. A two‑time All‑Star and one of the few pitchers in MLB history to throw two no‑hitters in a single season (1952), Trucks remained connected to the game long after retiring.
