Description
This a painting by a well-known African American painter of folk topics. It was acquired in the 1940’s and has been in our family since. It depicts a drummer with a proud looking cock, possibly as fighter. There is some damage which should be easily repairable. Also, the painting. “in person” is darker than shown in the photograph. It has a brooding quality, perhaps showing the plight of the Black man during the period it was produced. The cigarette made him look “cool,” although our attitudes have changed significantly today. Purchaser must be in the United States.
