Further Details Title: Democracy against Capitalism Condition: New Subtitle: Renewing Historical Materialism EAN: 9780521476829 Format: Paperback Author: Ellen Meiksins Wood ISBN: 9780521476829 Publisher: Cambridge University Press Release Date: 03/09/1995 Description: Ellen Meiksins Wood argues that with the collapse of Communism the theoretical project of Marxism and its critique of capitalism is more timely and important than ever. Current intellectual fashions of the left which emphasise 'post-modern' fragmentation, 'difference', contingency and the 'politics of identity' can barely accommodate the idea of capitalism, let alone subject the capitalist system to critique. In this book she sets out to renew the critical programme of historical materialism by redefining its basic concepts and its theory of history in original and imaginative ways, using them to identify the specificity of capitalism as a system of social relations and political power. She goes on to explore the concept of democracy in both the ancient and modern world, examining the concept's relation to capitalism, and raising questions about how democracy might go beyond the limits imposed on it by capitalism. Excellent quality & condition, a real value, & brand new as described. Shipped in a protective cardboard mailing envelope, & the shipping process took a little over a week. The item looks beautiful, & the CD’s & DVD sound wonderful as well! The DVD picture is clear & well restored. I do recommend this seller most highly to other buyers, & I would certainly buy from them again! A truly outstanding product & a smooth transaction, much appreciated! My sincere best wishes and many thanks to you.
Received item as described and packaged well. Listing indicated shipping was free. Ordered on the 7th but by the 14th noticed it hadn’t been shipped yet. Seller responded quickly saying that during the purchase process that it said it would not be shipped until the 22nd because they use a fulfillment house. I don’t recall seeing anything about delayed shipping during the process or in the listing. While I appreciate the prompt response to my inquiry, other buyers should be aware of delays.
THIS person is a fine eBay seller! • The item was ordered Feb 6, 2026 & received on Feb 17. • It was well packed, & arrived perfectly. • Shipping time: DECENT. • Item: New, as described. • I recommend this seller, & HOPE TO buy from them again. . [And I decry how eBay has taken to erase my descriptive Feedbacks each time, forcing me to save these words in Notes, and retrieve it for editing, for each successive detailed feedback submission.
