Here is a truly gorgeous vintage, artisan made, hand carved and painted red cardinal bird perched on a burl wood branch! This piece came out of an estate sale where there were many carved bird figurines of distinction. Most were signed, but not this one, so I was able to take it home for an affordable price. I can see a little label residue on the bottom, which might have helped to identify the maker if it were still there. The artistry is evident, not just in the carving but in the painting, where the artist’s skills really shine. Take a close look at how the feathers are rendered with beauty and realism. Only the eyes have a shiny glaze, making them look almost real. The legs appear to be of wrapped wire construction. Altogether, just a very handsome bird! Please note in the last picture that there is a little unfortunate dent on the top of the bird’s head. The sculpture measures just over 7 1/2” tall. The branch is 7” wide.
