Description

An anique hand-colored print of an adult Griffon Vulture of Eurasia, showing lower left that De Seve was the artist. From a series of 10 volumes by among others The Comte de Buffon (one of the greatest naturalists of his ag e) Historie Naturelle de Oiseux, published in Paris 1770-1786. This great work came out in later editions, but it's only in the original, "grand-papier" folio edition that its birds and their settings are particularly large and the artistry and coloring superb, the very best of Buffon we think. Print ca. 7 ¼” x 10” and in excellent condition, but it's glued into a not great mat, so that a new mat will be needed for framing. $115
