This long panel-necklace has a large old Turkmen (Turkoman) gonjik pendant that was handcrafted during the early to mid-1900's for the Ersari sub-tribe of Turkmenistan in Central Asia. It is vintage tribal-jewelry, not a new reproduction. More measurements are listed at the end of this description. Turkmen women wore gonjik (gonjuk, gendjik) pendants daily, often attached to long fabric-panels that came down to the waist or or below. This old gonjik pendant has the traditional square-diamond shape with ornate charm-dangles hanging below. Red beads at vibrant color, while warding off the evil-eye. The fabric panel is pomegranate-pink silk is more recent, studded with lots of vintage amulets (appasy) for attracting abundance and good-fortune. The more recent 16-inch neck-cord has a button-clasp This sturdy gonjik-pendant is vintage, with a rich age-patina and mild wear-patterns. Age-patina reflects the light when photographed, so this gonjik may appear brighter in pictures than it is in real life. Great for festivals, belly dance, theater costumes, stage productions, and making dramatic statements.
