Many specimens were captured after the invasion of France and proved to be a viable, quick and relatively economical solution to equip German anti-tank troops with a more powerful weapon than the now outdated 37mm Pak 36 no longer capable of drilling the armor of the more modern and robust Soviet tanks, such as the KV-1 and T-34. He could employ a decent variety of ammunition and also equipped numerous anti-tank departments from other Axis countries allied to Germany. Its operational performance was later surpassed by the more modern and current 75mm Pak 40.
