Rating System: Keep in mind, light scratching is indicative to stainless steel – and can even be seen on a new watch when using a jeweler’s loop. If you are looking for it, you will see it. Using a jeweler’s loop and using the naked eye give two completely different visualizations. Reconditioned watches are not perfect – they still have flaws unlike a new watch but the price does account for these differences– thus the rating system that I use: è A Rating of Three (3): some scratching will be visible to the naked eye. For example, deep scratches on the caseback are usually caused by an individual attempting to change a battery without the proper tools or experience. Although lightened through reconditioning, excising these completely could compromise the integrity of the case. è A Rating of Four (4): light scratching on the band and/or caseback may be visible to the new owner but most likely not to others. A condition just slightly below a four plus. è A Rating of Four-Plus (4+): minimal light scratching, if any, on the band or caseback may be present but likely not seen to the naked eye. Watches given this rating have been very lightly used and/or taken very good care by the previous owner. Ebay uses the term “refurbished”, I prefer “reconditioned”, may just be a matter of semantics to some but there is an important difference to me. What we do is take a used watch, and check the movement for any deficiencies or abnormalities, add a new battery to the watch, then rehab the exterior to remove as many scratches as we can without damaging the finish of the watch or in the case of a leather band, either rehab or replace the band with a genuine Movado band. Add new authentic Movado Presentation/Storage boxes and where necessary (such as with chronograph watches) include a Movado Owners Manual which details/describes how to use the chronograph functions. What you receive is as close to a new watch as possible at approximately 25% - 33% of the original retail price.
