Description Authentic WWII Naval Aviation History – The Philippines Campaign This original US Navy Dress Blue "Crackerjack" jumper belonged to Herman Junior Schmalz (1922–2011), an Aviation Radioman 2nd Class who served aboard the seaplane tender USS Currituck (AV-7) during the liberation of the Philippines. Historical Provenance: This jumper was sourced directly from Herman’s estate and is a confirmed piece of his personal wartime gear. The interior features his original naval identification: The Tag: Clearly marked "Schmalz, H.J." along with his official laundry mark and service number. The Rank: Features his original hand-sewn Aviation Radioman 2nd Class sleeve patch (Eagle over winged sparks). The Theater: Herman and the USS Currituck were vital to Pacific operations, tending to the patrol planes that secured Leyte Gulf and Mindoro during the campaign to liberate the Philippines. Condition Details: This jumper has been exceptionally well cared for over the last 80 years. The wool is heavy, dark, and retains its original shape. There are no major holes or damage, making this an ideal piece for historical display or a high-end collection.
