The Tokyo Design Studio x New Balance Fuelcell RC Elite is an in-house collaboration by New Balance and its progressive Tokyo Design Studio label on the performance running shoe. Tokyo Design Studio x New Balance Fuelcell RC Elite is a unique looking sneaker that pushes the envelope in design with a torn-away appearance. The shoe sources inspiration from the New Balance 1300JP running shoe from 1985. The shoe’s upper features grey suede paneling with jagged edges that suggests that the material has been torn away to reveal a blue mesh base underlay. A grey “N” logo is partially torn away on either side of the shoe. “Fuelcell” branding appears on the lateral side of the heel. Dual “Tokyo Design Studio” and “New Balance” logos are found on the tongue. Underfoot, a FuelCell-cushioned midsole provides a responsive ride. Following a pair of debut colorways made in collaboration with Stone Island, the Tokyo Design Studio x New Balance FuelCell RC Elite v2 ‘Japan’ arrives in a standalone colorway inspired by the iconic ‘Steel Blue’ 1300. The upper features grey suede overlays, highlighted by strategic tearaway detailing that reveals an engineered mesh base in indigo. ‘Tokyo Design Studio’ is inscribed on the tongue, while an oversized Flying NB logo is 3D screen-printed on the toe box. The lightweight build is mounted on a bulky FuelCell midsole, equipped with a full-length carbon fiber plate for a propulsive feel.
