Description
Here is a nice looking lightly used vintage mid 1960's USA made Wilson made Al Kaline model A2250 baseball glove for a Right-Hand thrower and thus fits on the left hand. Kaline was a right-handed thrower. The mitt is youth sized measuring 10.25" long through the pocket. The glove fits my adult hand OK. The glove has been broken in. This appears to be a rare model number for a Kaline glove, so you probably need it if Kaline was your guy. It also has Tournament stamped on the back of the thumb which I haven't seen before. I could not find this model number in any glove catalog info I have, but I assume it is a midline to lower quality glove. It has very soft and supple leather. Sometimes the glove companies would make a line of gloves for certain chain stores to sell, and they would give them different model numbers so they could easier track numbers of gloves sold, etc. Stamped on the front of the mitt is the Pro-Lock Web, Hand Formed Grease Set Pocket, Al Kaline (facsimile signature), Pro Style, A2250 Wilson, Made in U.S.A. and Snap Action. On the back is stamped Made in USA (in circle), Tournament, Nylon Stitched (a little hard to read on the backstrap), Wilson, Hold Tite Strap, Pat. No. 2231204, Canada - 398340-1941 and licensed under U.S. Pat. No 2722007. There is a faint marker name on the backstrap just below the Wilson stamping. It appears someone tried to rub it out and that's why there's wear there and not the rest of the glove. The glove is broken in and has soft exterior and interior leather. The front of the glove looks great and everything on the back looks nice except for the backstrap, which shows wear on the backstrap and soft vinyl cloth piping. The backstrap leather is still soft. The interior and exterior leather are soft and flexible. No chafing on the interior leather. The leather lacing appears to be original and is intact. The stamping on the front and back is all readable, with the Nylon Stitched stamping on the backstrap being the hardest to read. The leather lace sticking out between the pinky finger and the ring finger has now been tied off. Al Kaline played all of his 22 seasons (1953-1974) in the Major Leagues with the Detroit Tigers. He was a right-handed outfielder. He was an 18 time All-Star and won 10 Gold Gloves. Kaline was inducted in the MLB Hall of Fame in 1980. He was a big member of the 1968 Tigers World Series champions that beat the St. Louis Cardinals. He was the 1955 NL batting champion with a .340 average. He ended up with 3,007 hits, 399 homers and a .297 career batting average. I have other gloves and mitts on eBay now as auctions and/or Buy it Now, and I like to combine shipping whenever possible.
