Description

Nicely done model of a good looking pair of liners; can be done as either the MS Pitsudsky or MS Stefan Batory . Decals included and are good. MS Pitdsudski and her sister ship, Stefan Batory both of the Gdynia-America Line, were the two most popular ocean liners of pre-war Poland. During her first wartime voyage on 26 November 1939 sailing out of N ewcastle , she struck a mine (most likely) or was torpedoed (lack of confirmation in German sources). Abandoned too soon by her crew, quite capable of being saved, she sank off the H umber . Stefan Batory participated in the evacuation of Dunkirk and spent the war as a troop ship. Dubbed the Lucky Ship for her military career during World War II, she was r eturned to p ost-war Poland in 1946 where she resumed civilian service after a refit. She served until 1969, when she was retired and replaced by a modern, larger, Stefan Batory. After serving as a floating hotel, she was sold for scrap in 1971. lots of good photos of both ships are available on the internet.
