RARE 1912 UNCLE SAM ILLUSTRATION: American Imperialism ~ PANAMA CANAL Cartoon. A full page political illustration of Uncle Sam by Bernard Partridge, published August 21, 1912. He stand in the Panama Canal with elbow pushing the edges. It is hard to escape the legacy of the Punch Magazine. Measures 8 x 10 1/2 inches, including blank edges, pulled from the magazine, not a modern reproduction . Images shown with slight cropping, the last with a framing effect for representational purposes. Condition : very good -- some discoloration to lower edge, stain to right blank border (would be covered if framed), else clean and remains bright, the paper has been humidified and flattened for best appearance and for framing, backside is blank. This satire cartoon should be better known, it is a classic. A terrifically drawn illustration of Uncle Sam (comparable to the most famous illustration designed by James Montgomery Flagg in 1917 for WW 1: "I WANT YOU"). He stand in the Panama Canal with elbow pushing the edges. The title is a lampoon of the Olympic Games held that year (1912 in Sweden).
