Description
The rare and curious edition of A Game of Thrones. This edition would have been the very first edition worldwide - if it had been published! It predates the US Bantam Edition by one year. HarperCollins UK publishing director, Jane Johnson, signed George RR Martin to HarperCollins with plans to include A Game of Thrones in its brand new Voyager Sci-fi and Fantasy imprint in 1995. However the book was not distributed until 1996 - first by Bantam in the US, followed by Voyage in the same year. In 2010, to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the Voyager brand, Voyager released the intended first edition - the 1995 book - enclosed in a 15-year Anniversary Edition dust jacket. The gathers are true 1995 first edition, copyright page date and full number line. An additional page bound between the front end paper & the 1995 title-page has an introduction by Jane Johnson, celebrating 15 years of Voyager. Book and dustjacket in near-fine condition, light shelf wear, no inscriptions, a few creases on jacket edges.
Wow, this is a true collector's dream! Holding this piece of publishing history feels incredible. It's the legendary edition that started it all, a genuine treasure for any serious fan. So glad I finally own this cornerstone of fantasy lore.
