She is the author of self-help books for survivors of domestic violence and healing in general. Dr. Akhu is a two time past-president of the New York Association of Black Psychologist and served on the board in various positions for sixteen years. She has also served as a board member of the Association of Black Psychologists, an international association in which the New York Association of Black Psychologist is a chapter.
