It was released in December 1993. The set is based on One Thousand and One Nights , from which it uses several characters and story elements without changing their names. It introduced game mechanics that would be repeated in future sets, including stealing and coin flipping, as well as some powerful, iconic cards like Bazaar of Baghdad and Library of Alexandria.
