The surviving gold gilding across the frontal surface indicates a high-status decorative function. The reverse retains a suspension loop and lateral attachment flanges, suggesting it was affixed to leather — likely as part of a belt, military harness, or ceremonial strap fitting. Gilded mounts of this type were used to embellish military equipment and elite attire during the 2nd–3rd century AD. The architectural framing and raised central boss reflect Roman decorative metalwork traditions of the Imperial period. Authenticity Check: Original fire-gilding remains visible across the face with natural wear to raised surfaces. Reverse exhibits stable green patina and mineral accretions. Attachment loop and flanges show appropriate ancient wear and compression. No modern solder or artificial gilding observed.
