" Two Faces" Group Portrait BY FOLK ARTIST S.L . JONES (cat # 9) This drawing ( Two Pink-Yellow Faces) in crayon is signed by S.L. Jones- 9. S.L Jones #1571 Faces 12 X 18 date circa 1992 S.L. Jones,born in Franklin County, Virginia, is known for carving small figures in wood and is best known for his portrait heads. He also made many drawings. His drawings were created in pencil and crayon on paper. His sculpture and drawings can be found in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. and the Museum of American Folk Art, New York City. S.L. Jones died in 1997 at the age of 96 years old. His work has been included in various Exhibits, such as: Transmitters: the Isolate Artist in America, Philadelphia Collage of Art, 1981 - Made With Passion: The Hemphill Folk Art Collection, Passionate Visions of the American South, New Orleans Museum of Art, to name a few.
