Description
Spanish-American War Period US Navy Officer Sword Belt Buckle With Sliders Ornate gilt brass buckle and clasp. The buckle is circular in shape with oak leaves along the rim. In the center is an eagle atop an anchor, surrounded by a ring of thirteen stars. There are two larger oak leaves stretching away from the wreath to create the belt attachment. The attaching clasp mirrors the belt attachment from the buckle with two large oak leaves at the belt attachment. This buckle comes with two original brass slider adjusters with prongs, as the original belt had holes for adjusting the length. Our research indicates that the larger one is for the waist belt, and the smaller one is for the hanging sword strap. 3 1/2“ wide x 1 7/8” high Condition: Very Fine. Nearly free of scratches or other signs of wear. This is the original finish, as it was stored for decades and has not been cleaned or polished.
