Stunning Rare 19th Century English Staffordshire Miniature Mantle Table Fairing Box Depicting Semi-Recumbent Horse • Rare Antique Miniature Equestrian Figural Lidded Box • Height 2.75” • Length 2.5” I am delighted to offer this rare early period equestrian Staffordshire miniature figural horse lidded fairing box in classic form from Staffordshire, England. Maybe the horse is featured in this semi-recumbent form to allow a little child up onto the cozy saddle blanket atop its back. Inside the lid we have evidence of matches being struck on the interior bisque lid, as fairing boxes often held matches for fire lighting in a stove or fireplace. We love this; a touch of history come to life. This gallery quality figure will surely bring an element of English country life to any setting in this beautiful example of 19th century English aesthetic. This is a marvelous statement making miniature that will surely be the delight of every admirer whether front and center on a mantle or table, or as a stunning addition or finishing focal point to a fine collection or arrangement. Minimal to no post production flaws. Expected time softened patina. Characteristic pearlescent apricot glaze to saddle blanket common to fairing models. Marvelous.
