Where the first collection in Fremeaux & Associes' gospel series, Gospel, Vol. 1: 1926-1942, was a nice overview of many different styles of gospel and the second edition, Gospel, Vol. 2: Gospel Quartets 1921-1942, focused solely on vocal quartets, the third collection enjoys many of the benefits of diversity featured on volume one, while implementing a similar focus on one section within the whole of gospel recordings. Gospel, Vol. 3: Guitar Evangelists and Bluesmen 1927-1944 is centered all around gospel guitarists -- which, by all means, is nothing groundbreaking as far as a collection of early recordings is concerned, but where Fremeaux & Associes ups the ante is in the care they've put into piecing these particular tracks together. The two-disc collection is one of the few where Blind Joe Taggart, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Sleepy John Estes, Skip James, Kid Prince Moore, and Memphis Minnie actually appear side by side, which makes it a fine set of songs for any collector of early recorded music. ~ Gregory McIntosh About InnerSleeve We offer unbeatable prices, quick shipping times and a wide selection of vinyl.
