Kingsmatic Automatic HS 360 SubSea Watch W/Black Leather Movado 18R Strap Description: Luxurious Movado “Kingmatic” HS 360 Sub Sea Gentleman’s 18k Rose Gold Watch with Solid Rose Gold “Pan” Dial from 1966. The Kingmatic HS 360 was the most modern and last version of the Kingmatic line of fast calibre movements, it “used the fast train Calibres 404 to 409 with 36,000 vibrations per hour”. The “Sub-Sea” moniker attached to this particular model was due in part to “some impressive advertising demonstrations…undertaken with the Kingmatic. In 1960 a ‘Kingmatic Sub Sea’ was attached to the outside of the hull of an ocean liner in such a way that it was permanently submerged throughout an Atlantic crossing: the watch withstood the test” (quoted from page 136 of The Movado History (1996)). This terrific find is in excellent condition both mechanically and aesthetically. The rose gold “pan” dial has an “engine-turned” inner square panel, faceted gold hour markers and gold hands set against the 18k gold (plated?)* bezel and case. Day and date apertures at 3 o’clock*, acrylic crystal is clean and without scratches or distortion. The Swiss Automatic 17 Jewel Automatic Movement runs great and keeps as accurate time as could be expected from an automatic movement that is over 60 years old (of course there is a reason why watchmakers switched to Quartz movements – accuracy). The rose gold case is in perfect condition, original Omega crown which was not unusual during this time – I have no reason to believe it is not original to this watch. The black leather band is an original Movado Genuine Calfskin 18R – cannot verify if this is the original band or not but unless this watch was never worn it would be hard to believe this is not a later addition. The leather strap is 9” in length and is finished with a gold tone Movado buckle/clasp. The case measures 36mm w/o the crown and 38mm w/crown. The package includes two authentic (one outer one inner) Movado Presentation/Storage boxes, owners manual, and an ancient Zales warranty card. The perfect gift for any discriminating watch collector….and, don’t forget, Christmas is just around the corner, it is never too early to buy that perfect gift!! *To set the day and date first pull out the crown to the first position where you can move the hands. Keep turning until the correct day and time are achieved. Thereafter pull the crown to the second position where you can set the date. GrandPa Don's Rating: 5 This watch is in excellent condition. Note: I am using "The Movado Guide" as the guide to the actual gold content of this watch. There is little question that the "Pan" dial is 18k Gold. However, the stamp on the watch case is so small that I cannot read with a magnifying glass - so until I can have it verified by an better authoritty than myself, just to be safe I will list this as 18k Gold Plate. Rating System: Keep in mind, light scratching is indicative to stainless steel – and can even be seen on a new watch when using a jeweler’s loop. If you are looking for it, you will see it. Using a jeweler’s loop and using the naked eye give two completely different visualizations. Refurbished watches are not perfect – but should look exceptionally pleasing to the naked eye – thus the rating system that I use: è A Rating of Three (3): some scratching will be visible to the naked eye. For example, deep scratches on the caseback are usually caused by an individual attempting to change a battery without the proper tools or experience. Although lightened through reconditioning, excising these completely could compromise the integrity of the case. è A Rating of Four (4): light scratching on the band and/or caseback may be visible to the new owner but most likely not to others. A condition just slightly below a four plus. è A Rating of Four-Plus (4+): minimal light scratching, if any, on the band or caseback may be present but likely not seen to the naked eye. Watches given this rating have been very lightly used and/or taken very good care by the previous owner. Could easily pass as a new watch. è A Rating of Five (5): The watch is either brand new and never been worn or lightly used but reconditioned with excellent results – any defects and/or scratches have been removed. Please Note: Although any distinction between a new watch and a reconditioned watch with a 5 rating is difficult to discern by the naked eye, we will always indicate if a five is a new or a reconditioned watch. Rest assured, I will never sell you a reconditioned watch as a new, unworn watch.
