Description
Vintage drawknife, also known as a draw shave or shaving knife, used for shaping wood by removing shavings. It consists of a blade with handles at both ends, allowing it to be pulled or drawn toward the user. Drawknives are used for debarking trees, creating cylindrical shapes for lathes, or for flat, faceted work. Common sizes are 8" and 10", but larger sizes exist for specialized tasks like debarking. The flat back of the blade is useful for straight cuts, while the beveled side is better for scooping and concave curves. Variations exist, including straight and curved blades. Sharpening is essential for maintaining its effectiveness.
