Vintage Hand Carved Wood Swiss Herdsman w/ Alphorn 5 ½” Figure, Folk Art - - (A). It is unmarked but each piece was catalogued where it originated from. The fine hand painting still allows for portions of the piece to remain natural (but lightly stained) and showcase the beautiful natural wood as well. DETAILS · This is a beautiful vintage hand-crafted piece of European Folk Art made sometime between the 1930’s and the 1950’s. These Old-World sculpture figures were carved by life-long trained craftsmen - and then hand-painted with great detail. These intriguing figurines were created by local artists in small villages throughout Europe following a tradition of refined workmanship passed down through families for centuries. The fine hand painting still allows for portions of the piece to remain natural (but lightly stained) and showcase the beautiful natural wood as well. The rustic influence adds to its charm. · This piece was made in Switzerland and depicts a typical Swiss Alps Herdsman calling in his cattle with his large Alphorn; he wears a traditional black jacket and cap with red trim. It was purchased from a collection at an Estate Sale that was accumulated during travels between 1932 through 1955. It is unmarked but each piece was catalogued where it originated from . · It is in very good vintage condition – I found no notable flaws.
