At its launch, it was a breakthrough in engineering, offering full digital phase-locked loop (PLL) synthesized tuning and single-sideband (SSB) reception in a body small enough to fit in a traveler's bag. Today, it is a highly sought-after collector's item and remains a perfectly functional unit for portable DXing (long-distance radio listening).
