Description

You are bidding on a VERY NICE and 100% original set of WW2 British Royal Air Force Operations Room Map Tiles! Used on large maps, these indicated the position of both friendly and enemy aircraft during a raid. Map counters were used in RAF Filter and Sector Ops rooms during the Battle of Britain and beyond to display important information relating to an enemy raid. When details of aircraft were received at Group Filter room level, it was interpreted on a map table using plotting 'counters' in the form of colored arrows, discs and shields. Arrows indicated aircraft seen over land by Observers or over sea by radio location. Shields indicated aircraft heard over land or sea by Observers and Discs indicated circling aircraft. The color of the plotting pieces related directly to those on the Sector clock such that information was updated every 5 minutes. The raid block itself was normally positioned at the head of the plotting path and provided additional information such as strength, height and whether the aircraft were 'hostile', 'friendly' or 'unknown. Made of plastic, this is an EXCELLENT set! There is some slight marks and wear due to the age, but nothing that detracts. I have shown both the front and back sides of each. Last image depicts these EXACT type of counters in use. A FANTASTIC opportunity to create a small Operations Room display, these would make a PERFECT addition any collection or simply as a conversation piece!
