The Patch: This auction is for One WWII Original Tenth Army shoulder patch with a white back. This patch is in good condition. It has a very nice white backing. This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic. The History: The Tenth Army was activated on June 20, 1944 at Honolulu , Hawaii . Lt. General Simon Bolivar Buckner was its first commander. Its original mission was to invade Formosa , but orders changed and Okinawa became its target. The landings on Okinawa occurred on April 1, 1945, Easter Sunday. They captured the major airfields on the island by evening of the 1st. By April 19th, 4/5ths of the island had been secured. Heavy fighting occurred in the Japanese defensive lines around Shuri Castle and Naha . General Buckner was killed on June 18th by enemy shell fire. The island was finally secured by the end of the month. The Tenth Army was inactivated on October 15th, 1945. Please read my auction requirements.
