This YSL Rive Gauche skirt was designed by Stefano Pilati as part of the S/S 2006 "Ode to Spain" collection. It was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's work with Picasso and Spanish Dadaism - and Pilati updated his iconic bubble skirt to include the high nipped-in waist of traditional matador pants. It was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's work with Picasso and Spanish Dadaism - and Pilati updated his iconic bubble skirt to include the high nipped-in waist of traditional matador pants. The skirt was made in France and is 100% premium black silk. The high waist is framed with a lustrous silk satin inset which, when exposed or highlighted with a thin belt, creates the effect of an impossibly cinched-in waist. The outer layer is finely ribbed silk taffeta with precise pleating. When worn with the satin exposed, it creates a trompe l'oeil effect of a low-slung taffeta skirt with a more voluminous hip and slightly tapered hemline. This skirt retailed for almost $2000 and was purchased on sale and never worn. The original YSL crimp tag is attached.
