The barbed hose ID connection fits inside the hose, has a greater hold than non-barbed connections. The coupler's hot-dipped galvanized steel body resists rust and corrosion. This coupler locks on the male side with a double pin locking lever and comes with a safety pin to prevent the fitting from being accidentally opened. It is used for irrigation and suction line applications, among others, but it is not recommended for use with media that would cause health or environmental concerns if the fitting leaked.
