Interesting facts: * Produced by Glencairn Crystal Ltd., a Scottish company based in East Kilbride, near Glasgow. The glass was originally designed by Raymond Davidson, the company's managing director. * The design was finalized with input from master blenders from five of Scotland's largest whisky companies. The glass first came into production in 2001. * The vast majority of Glencairn glasses in circulation are made from lead-free crystal. Initially, they were also available in 24% lead crystal and soda-lime glass, but the soda-lime variation was discontinued in 2008. * Glencairn glasses are crafted using a traditional, skilled hand craftsmanship process. This can result in slight variations, such as tiny air bubbles, hand tool marks, or slight asymmetries, which are considered characteristics of handmade pieces. * The Glencairn glass is the first style of glass to be endorsed by the Scotch Whisky Association and is used by virtually every whisky company in Scotland and Ireland. * Its unique shape is derived from the traditional "nosing copitas" (small, tulip-shaped glasses) used in whisky labs around Scotland for decades.
